Gratitude

In recent years, the word Gratitude has been thrown around more often. The concept of expressing gratitude, and even writing in gratitude journals, has become almost trendy. The collective consciousness is moving in a new direction: one that embraces the mind-body-spirit mentality. What used to be seen as supernatural, outlandish, mystical, and/or unscientific is now mainstream. And for good reason.

We are now more aware that our physical bodies are affected by our minds, emotions, and even spiritual beliefs. We now understand the importance of medicinal breath, and how important proper breathing technique is for our overall health. Ask anyone who does yoga! Even the Mayo Clinic has a “Discover Gratitude” program.

Expressing gratitude has both mental and physical benefits including: improved mood, better sleep, decreased depression and anxiety, improved immunity.

Make gratitude a daily practice, like taking a vitamin. On days you struggle, look back through the pages. I recently looked back at my own journal from after my traumatic brain injury.

I now turn my focus to gratitude, for all that I have: my life as I know it, my ability to comprehend, read, speak, see and do everything like most. My deepest love and gratitude to:
~ Those who lived with me during those very, very dark days and nights
~ My incredible neurologist, doctors, and surgeons who took the very best care of me
~ All of my amazing teachers, especially to Billie Topa Tate, an extraordinary woman and teacher who taught me to use mystical practices in my healing.
~ My dogs, Roxie & Rambo, who had the gift of healing
